Aeon tops up store donations with its own funds for Chiba flood relief

Aeon presented Chiba Prefecture with ¥51.25 million for August flood recovery, adding its own money to ¥30.4 million the public raised through nearly 6,800 of its stores nationwide -- its retail network doubling as a fundraising channel.

Aeon Co., Ltd. said it presented Chiba Prefecture with ¥51,252,932 on October 20 to support recovery from the heavy rain that hit the prefecture on August 13, 2026, combining money the public donated through its stores with a top-up from the company itself.

Of the total, ¥30,391,109 was collected between August 19 and September 20 through donation drives -- collection boxes and cashless payments -- at 6,791 stores run by 52 companies across the Aeon group nationwide. Aeon Co. itself added ¥20,391,109 and group company Aeon Retail Co. a further ¥470,714, bringing the company's own contribution to just over ¥20.86 million, according to the release. Aeon said the funds would be used by the prefecture for the benefit of people in the affected areas.

The donation leans on a mechanism Aeon has built into its stores rather than a corporate line item alone: nearly 6,800 outlets across more than 50 group companies acted as collection points over a five-week window, turning the retailer's own nationwide footprint into fundraising infrastructure before the company topped up the total itself.
