Cainz turns its own football club's next home match into a stadium retail pop-up

Cainz, Japan's largest home-improvement chain and Thespa Gunma's biggest shareholder, is filling the November 7 home match with a branded eco-bag giveaway, an app-linked lottery, a DIY arcade, a café and a capsule-toy truck -- treating a club it now effectively owns as a retail channel, not just a sponsorship.

Cainz Corporation said it will run a "Cainz Special Match" (カインズスペシャルマッチ) retail activation at Thespa Gunma's home game on November 7 at Shoda Shoyu Stadium Gunma (正田醤油スタジアム群馬), according to the retailer's October 28 announcement. The first 3,500 attendees receive an original eco bag carrying Thespa's mascot, made from recycled ocean-bound plastic, the company said.

The activation runs well beyond the giveaway: a Cainz booth hosts an app-linked lottery for Thespa merchandise and Cainz-brand goods; a walk-in "DIY Gesen" (DIYゲーセン) -- an arcade of wooden toys built from digital-device parts, normally found at some Cainz stores -- is set up at the ground; Cainz Food Service runs its Cafe Bricco Stadium Store selling baked goods and coffee; and an AMUUU capsule-toy truck, operated by Mew Entertainment, sells a Thespa collaboration capsule alongside its own toys, the company said.

The club and the retailer have been close for two decades -- Cainz has been Thespa's official uniform partner since around 2006 -- but the relationship has tightened in recent years, according to the company. Cainz took a stake in Thespa's operating company and joined its management in 2020, became the club's largest single shareholder through a 2024 capital increase, and in 2025 placed Thespa formally inside its Base Group of businesses as an important line, the company said. Cainz is also working with Thespa and Maebashi City on the development of the Maebashi Rose Town Soccer Ground (GCC Thespark), the only professional football venue project of its kind in Gunma Prefecture.

Thespa is the only professional football club based in Gunma, which leaves Cainz -- headquartered nearby in Saitama but founded in Gunma -- with a captive fan base it now controls outright rather than merely sponsors. A match-day line-up built around its own app, its own food-service arm and its own in-store DIY format treats the stadium less like advertising space and more like a satellite store: the aim is less brand visibility than getting Thespa's crowd to open the Cainz app and come back to a Cainz till.
