Cainz runs a nationwide dog campaign across 72 stores ahead of November's Dog Day

Cainz, the nationwide Japanese home-centre chain, has built a cross-channel dog-themed campaign around November's Dog Day, with workshops at 72 stores and a city-partnered flagship event — a sign of how far pet care has moved from a niche aisle to a mainstream seasonal category on the home-centre floor.

Cainz, the nationwide Japanese home-centre chain, has launched a dog-themed campaign, "Cainz Wan Matsuri 2026," running October 7 to November 9 across its stores and official online shop, timed to November 1's "Dog Day," the company said.

Across 72 stores, Cainz is running 13 types of DIY workshops, including paid sessions to make a paw-shaped charm holding a clipping of the dog's own fur, a walking bandana and a reflector that glows at night, alongside a free can-badge workshop; content varies by store, the company said. Some stores also offer a free photo session with a professional photographer, with advance booking earning a keychain made from the shot. Online, Cainz is selling a flat ¥1,000 limited snack range, a ¥2,780 limited thin pet sheet, a ¥1,000 limited value set and a ¥3,980 heater bed that needs no electricity, plus a new puzzle-style wall decoration covering 20 dog breeds, on sale via its CAINZ DIY MARKET since September 30.

The campaign leans heavily on loyalty mechanics: app members who spend ¥5,000 or more on dog food or supplies between September 29 and November 9 earn 1,000 points, members of its pet-specific "Pet's One Members" tier get ten-times points on dog and cat goods on the 1st and 2nd of every month plus November 7 and 8, and users of its smart dog-run facility can enter a lottery for 1,111 winners of 111 points each. An online photo contest, "Wan Photo," runs the same window across three categories: outfits, beds and toys.

The campaign's single biggest event is at its Yoshikawa Minami store in Saitama: "Wan Wan Matsuri 2026 in Yoshikawa Minami with Wanterasu," on November 7 and 8, part of Yoshikawa City's 30th-anniversary programme. Admission is free, and Cainz expects roughly 6,000 visitors across a food-and-goods marché, food trucks and breed-specific meet-ups, the company said.

The scale of the build — store-level workshops, app-wide points incentives and a city-partnered flagship event — shows how far pet care has moved from a niche aisle to a cross-channel seasonal category at a chain whose core business is still hardware and DIY. It is the kind of evented, loyalty-driven programming department stores have long run around gift seasons, applied here to a format built around lumber and garden tools rather than fashion floors.

What to watch is whether the Yoshikawa Minami weekend draws close to its roughly 6,000-visitor estimate, and whether a Dog Day campaign built at this scale becomes an annual fixture rather than a one-off.
