Daimaru Umeda runs a Honolulu Cookie Company fair with Japan-exclusive custom boxes
Daimaru Umeda's two-week Honolulu Cookie Company fair gives Osaka shoppers two custom box sizes sold only in Japan -- a small but concrete way a department store turns an imported specialty-food brand's seasonal fixture into a gift counter with its own pull.

Daimaru Umeda is running a Honolulu Cookie Company fair on its first floor from October 21 to November 3, including two custom cookie-box sizes sold only in Japan, according to Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores' October 14 announcement.
The fair, set up in the store's "Okashi na Parade" event space near the west entrance, centres on two pre-set boxes -- a ¥4,428 Fall Collection Window Box of 16 cookies across seven flavours, and a ¥1,296 Halloween Treat Box of five cookies across five flavours -- alongside the Japan-exclusive options: a three-cookie box at ¥780-840 and a ten-cookie box at ¥2,600-2,800, each built by choosing from twelve regular flavours. Quantities are limited and some items may sell out before the fair ends, the department store said.
The custom boxes are the detail that turns a two-week fixture into something closer to a gift counter: letting shoppers build their own assortment out of twelve flavours gives Daimaru Umeda a point of difference from any other department store running the same imported brand's standard seasonal line-up.
