Kashiwa Takashimaya brings back its stationery marketplace, swapping in half new brands

Kashiwa Takashimaya has brought back its stationery marketplace for a second year, refreshing 20 of more than 40 exhibiting brands to keep a format it calls a hit from going stale.

Takashimaya's Kashiwa store has brought back its stationery marketplace, "Bunbougu Marche," for a second year, running October 22 to 26 with more than 40 exhibiting brands, 20 of them appearing for the first time, the company said.

The event takes over the basement-two event hall of Kashiwa Takashimaya's main building, open 10:30am to 7pm daily and closing at 5pm on the last day. The range spans notebooks, letter sets, pens, erasers, stickers, masking tape and stamps, mixing retro designs with newer releases, with a "stationery buffet" corner and a stationery-artists' corner alongside the main brand line-up. Takashimaya said the marketplace is returning because last year's edition, its first, was a hit -- a claim it makes without disclosing sales or visitor figures.

Bringing back half the same line-up while swapping in 20 new brands is a cheap way to run the format twice without it going stale -- enough familiarity to pull back last year's crowd, enough novelty that the trip still feels worth making.
