A four-court pickleball park opens at Toyosu next month, sponsored by Mitsui Fudosan, TBS and KINTO

Pickleball One will open Pickleball Park Toyosu, a four-court outdoor facility on Tokyo Bay, on 9 September, according to the company's announcement. The courts sit inside the Dog Park Toyosu complex in Koto Ward, a short walk from Yurikamome's Shin-Toyosu and Toyosu stations.

The business entity behind the venue is Mellow Corp, with Pickleball One handling planning and day-to-day operations; TBS Holdings, Mitsui Fudosan and KINTO are named as sponsors, according to the release, which doesn't detail what each sponsor is contributing beyond that credit.

The four hard courts have night lighting and run 6am to 10pm daily, unstaffed from 6 to 9am, closing only around New Year and in severe weather. Court hire runs ¥6,000 an hour on weekday daytimes, ¥7,000 on weekday evenings and ¥8,000 on weekends and holidays, with paddle and shoe rental at ¥500 an hour each; reservations opened 20 August.

The sponsor line-up is the more interesting fact than the courts. A developer, a broadcaster and a car-subscription firm all lending their names as sponsors, rather than building or operating the venue themselves, reads as brand association with a growing amateur sport at low commitment and low cost. It's also the latest in a run of dedicated pickleball venues that have opened around Tokyo and at resort hotels this year, evidence that racquet-sport real estate is no longer confined to the golf-adjacent leisure crowd.
