Seibu Ikebukuro's main-building renovation reaches its final two floors

Sogo & Seibu will reopen Seibu Ikebukuro's seventh floor on November 6 and eighth floor on December 9, completing the south side of the main building's renovation that has run in stages since 2024 -- the final phase pairs combined men's-and-women's contemporary fashion with a sleep-goods specialism and a new in-house art space.

Sogo & Seibu said it will reopen Seibu Ikebukuro's seventh floor on November 6 and eighth floor on December 9, completing the renovation of the main building's south side that the company has carried out in stages since 2024, according to a release dated October 15.

Floor 7: men's and women's, combined

The seventh floor, 15 shops plus an event hall, is built around what Sogo & Seibu calls an "affordable luxury" theme: global and premium labels priced for everyday wear. Six of them -- Paul Smith, Theory, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Lacoste and TATRAS -- will run as combined men's-and-women's shops rather than separate counters, a format the company frames as letting partners, families and friends shop together rather than splitting off by gender. Accessories and leather goods fill out the floor: Four Nines, Coach, Bonaventura, Kate Spade New York, LeSportsac, Vendôme Aoyama, Ponte Vecchio, CHARMY and Cole Haan. The renovated event hall's first booking, from January 2027, is a sweets fair called "Chocolate Paradise."

Floor 8: fashion meets sleep, plus a new art space

The eighth floor, 29 shops, mixes ready-to-wear with lifestyle categories. Clothing brands include Brooks Brothers, Aquascutum, Epoca, Takeo Kikuchi, Mackintosh Philosophy and Wacoal The Store, among others, alongside goods shops such as Familiar and Feiler. The floor's lifestyle section leads with sleep goods -- airweave and nishikawa will both staff the floor with bedding specialists trained to advise customers individually -- and adds bath and home-fragrance names including Vranjes Firenze, a nail salon and a repair service. A new art space, Art Forum, opens on the floor with a dedicated exhibition for the artist Kanako Sasaki, the company said, with further shows from emerging and established artists to follow.

The floor plan itself is the tell. A department store chasing only the cheapest unit economics wouldn't knock down the wall between men's and women's racks, or stock a nail salon and a clothing-repair counter next to the handbags -- both read as bets on service and repeat visits over pure sell-through. Pairing bedding specialists with an art gallery is a specific kind of hedge too: neither category competes directly with e-commerce on price, which is exactly the ground a full-line department store needs to hold as apparel migrates online.

Sogo & Seibu frames the finished south building, under a renovation concept it calls "inclusion," as a single department-store model stitching fashion, lifestyle, service and events together.
