YSL Beauty adds a woody skin-musk 'Intense' to its MYSLF fragrance line in Japan

Yves Saint Laurent Beauty is deepening its MYSLF franchise rather than replacing it, adding an Intense edition built around a skin-hugging musk instead of a louder new scent family.

Nihon L'Oreal, which operates Yves Saint Laurent Beauty in Japan, began nationwide sales today of MYSLF Eau de Toilette Intense, a new addition to its MYSLF men's fragrance line, the company said. Advance sales had opened on 29 July at YSL Beauty's official online boutique, its Omotesando flagship boutique and ZOZOCOSME.

The company describes the scent as built around a "woody skin-musk" accord — orange blossom and a black-wood note layered over what it calls a skin-compatible musk — with a reversed structure that releases the darker wood notes first, an unusual sequencing for an eau de toilette. YSL Beauty positions the formula as delivering eau-de-toilette lightness with the depth and staying power it associates with an eau de parfum.

The line comes in three sizes — ¥22,000 for 100mL, ¥16,500 for 60mL, and a ¥4,950 10mL size sold only through the online boutique, the Omotesando store and ZOZOCOSME — and continues a campaign fronted by actor Austin Butler, the company said.

An "Intense" flanker is a lower-risk move than launching a new fragrance line: it keeps the MYSLF name and bottle recognisable on a shelf while giving the brand a second price point and a reason for existing customers to trade up or add a scent to their rotation, without the marketing spend a wholly new launch requires. Whether YSL Beauty backs it with the same flagship-and-online placement it gives headline launches, or treats it as a quieter line extension, is worth watching over the next few months.
