Aeon Mall Yachiyo Midorigaoka reopens after its first renovation in 21 years
Aeon Mall Yachiyo Midorigaoka reopens September 18 after its first major renewal since it opened in 2005, refreshing 28 stores and adding a picnic-style rooftop-adjacent dining terrace alongside a children's play concept and an anime-goods corner.
Aeon Mall Yachiyo Midorigaoka in Chiba will reopen on September 18, 2026 after its first large-scale renovation since the mall opened in 2005, Aeon said in a press release — 21 years without a comparable refresh.
The project touches 28 stores in total, the company said. New tenants include a combined Uniqlo and GU store; a Doutor Coffee Shop that Aeon says is the coffee chain's first location in Chiba prefecture; a Zhang Liang Malatang restaurant; a Cosme Color Studio beauty concept; an indoor children's play area for ages up to 12 called Nobikko; and an anime and game-goods corner, Comi Lab, set inside the mall's Mirai-ya bookstore.
A destination bet, not just a store swap
Beyond the tenant list, Aeon is adding a second-floor space called Yachiyo Green Terrace, an artificial-turf, picnic-style dining area, according to the release. The mall sits on roughly 46,000 square metres of site area with about 144,000 square metres of total floor space and parking for some 2,500 cars, and connects directly to Toyo Rapid Railway's Yachiyo-Midorigaoka Station.
The mix says as much as the renovation itself. Alongside the anchor refresh of Uniqlo and GU, Aeon is layering in dining, a children's play concept and an anime-goods corner — additions built to keep a family shopping there longer rather than to sell more per square metre on their own. For a 21-year-old suburban mall competing for the same catchment as newer developments, that is the more defensible kind of renovation: buying occasion and dwell time, not just refreshing the store list.
