RIZAP's chocoZAP opens its largest-ever gym, a three-floor Malaysia flagship, testing formats for a 150-store overseas push

RIZAP Group's chocoZAP fitness chain has opened its largest store anywhere, a three-floor, roughly 735-square-metre building in Subang Jaya, Malaysia — a Japanese capital and format pilot the company is running abroad ahead of a stated target of 150 overseas locations by March 2027, before any of it comes home to the domestic chocoZAP estate.

RIZAP Group said its chocoZAP fitness chain opened a new store in Subang Jaya, Selangor, on October 1, a three-floor, standalone building of about 7,911 square feet (roughly 735 square metres) that the company is calling its largest chocoZAP location anywhere, including Japan.

The store functions as what RIZAP called a "service laboratory," trialling a wider mix than a typical chocoZAP across its three floors: fitness equipment, beauty services, entertainment including an eight-room karaoke floor, billiards and darts, plus coworking and relaxation space. The company said the format builds on its Hong Kong store and on lessons from its existing Malaysia store in Uptown and its Orchard Road store in Singapore. Membership runs RM80 to register, RM198 a month or RM1,980 a year, with the first month free and registration waived through a launch promotion running to the end of November.

RIZAP said it is targeting as many as 150 chocoZAP locations overseas by March 2027. Using Malaysia — not Japan — as the proving ground for a format this much larger and more elaborate than the convenience-store-sized gyms chocoZAP built its domestic reputation on is notable in itself: it suggests the company sees less risk testing a bigger, service-heavier bet in a market it is still building out than retrofitting the idea into an already-dense home chain, with the learnings expected to flow back into Japan only once the format has proven itself abroad.
