Golden Goose reopens its Aoyama flagship as a 'living atelier' with Japan's first in-store shoemaking workshop
Golden Goose has reopened its original Japan flagship in Minami-Aoyama after a full renovation built around the Cobbler's Room (コブラーズルーム), the brand's first in-store repair and bespoke workshop in the country -- a bet that keeping customers' worn-in sneakers alive is as good a draw as selling new ones.

Golden Goose Japan K.K. (ゴールデングース・ジャパン株式会社), the Italian footwear and apparel brand's Japan unit, said in a release carried by PR TIMES on November 6 that it reopened Golden Goose Aoyama (ゴールデングース青山店), its two-storey store at 5-2-12 Minami-Aoyama in Tokyo's Minato Ward, on October 31 after what it called a full renovation. The store opened in 2016 as the brand's first flagship in Japan.
The centrepiece is the Cobbler's Room (コブラーズルーム), which Golden Goose Japan says is the first in-store shoemaking and repair workshop the brand has run in the country. It offers repairs, remakes and bespoke treatments for Golden Goose sneakers, aimed, the company said, at extending how long customers can keep wearing a pair rather than replacing it.
Alongside it, the store expands its Co-Creation customisation stations: a first-floor table for drawing, stud application, heat-pressed decals and screen printing on sneakers and apparel, and a new second-floor leather-craft station for made-to-order belts and sandals and embroidery on caps and clothing. The company also installed a permanent, hand-built analogue sound system and DJ console -- made from eucalyptus wood, composite materials and stainless steel -- commissioned from independent Italian sound-design studio FUTURA. Golden Goose Japan gave no figures for the renovation's cost or the store's floor area.
Selling repair instead of replacement
Golden Goose's sneakers are sold already distressed, so a workshop that keeps extending a pair's life sits oddly next to a business built on selling new ones -- until it is read as a loyalty play rather than a product one. A customer who gets years out of one pair, repaired and personalised in-store, is a customer who keeps coming back to the same Aoyama address rather than drifting to a reseller or a rival. With no Japan sales disclosure to point to, the reopened flagship is the only concrete marker the country has of how far that strategy is being pushed.
