Goldwin expands its Sapporo North Face flagship into the country's largest, with a permanent repair counter
Goldwin will reopen its THE NORTH FACE+ store at Sapporo Factory on Sept. 5 with roughly 15% more floor space, calling it the brand's largest store in Japan, and add Eastern Japan's first permanent repair-and-embroidery counter alongside a new PURPLE LABEL line.

Goldwin will reopen its THE NORTH FACE+ store at Sapporo Factory, a shopping complex in central Sapporo, on Sept. 5 after expanding the floor from roughly 233 tsubo (about 770 square metres) to roughly 269 tsubo (about 890 square metres), the company said in a release. Goldwin, which holds the licence to operate The North Face in Japan, described the enlarged store as its largest North Face flagship in the country.
The renewed store will house a permanent repair-and-custom counter, Goldwin said, offering on-site product repairs alongside custom embroidery and patchwork added to items customers have already bought — the first time such a permanent service has been installed at a North Face store in eastern Japan, according to the company.
The store will also introduce THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL, a line the company positions as blending fashion with function for everyday urban wear, alongside the brand's core outdoor product, Goldwin said.
A permanent repair counter is a different kind of investment from a bigger sales floor: it commits staff and space to servicing products already sold, rather than only moving new stock, and gives customers a recurring reason to walk back into the store between purchases. Pairing that with a made-to-order embroidery counter turns a chain retailer into something closer to a workshop — a bet on staffing and store experience, in the terms retailers use, at a moment when outdoor and technical-apparel brands more broadly are competing on service and repair culture as much as on new product.
