Guerlain gives Isetan Shinjuku a two-day head start on its new Règle Bleue fragrance

Guerlain is letting Isetan Shinjuku sell its new Règle Bleue fragrance two days before anyone else can buy it nationwide, backed by two scents the pop-up alone will carry — a reminder that a fragrance launch's first week in Japan is often choreographed by a single department-store floor as much as by the brand.

Guerlain is giving shoppers at Isetan Shinjuku a two-day jump on its new fragrance Règle Bleue, opening a pre-launch pop-up on 26 August, ahead of the 28 August nationwide release, the beauty house said in a statement carried on PR TIMES.

The event runs through 1 September on the first floor of Isetan Shinjuku's main building, in the store's dedicated event space, The Stage.

Règle Bleue takes its name from l'heure bleue, the blue hour — the fleeting daily moment when the sky turns deep blue at dawn and dusk. Guerlain traces the idea to 1912, when the house's third-generation perfumer, Jacques Guerlain, watched the sky from Paris's Pont-Neuf bridge and created what became Règle Bleue 1912; the company said its current in-house perfumer, Delphine Jelk, composed the new fragrance as a contemporary take on that same scene. The 28 August lineup runs from a 30mL and 50mL eau de parfum and a 200mL refill to a scented soap and lip cases in three shades.

Two further eau de parfums — Amour Céleste and Jardin de l'Élysée, both sold as 125mL-plus-30mL sets at ¥122,430 and ¥68,090 respectively — are, Guerlain said, exclusive to the Isetan Shinjuku event; the release notes they will not even be carried at Guerlain's own Règle Bleue event at Matsuya Ginza the following month.

The choreography here is a familiar department-store lever: a 48-hour head start plus two scents no other counter will carry, including Guerlain's own next stop in Ginza, turns a national fragrance launch into a reason to be at one specific counter in one specific week — the kind of scarcity beauty floors increasingly need as browsing, and buying, drift online.

How well it works will show up in Isetan's fragrance-floor numbers for the week, not in any figure Guerlain is likely to publish on its own.
