JR East and Seibu wrap a Shinkansen in Harry Potter characters for round two of their studio-tour tie-in
JR East and Seibu Railway are running a second phase of their tie-in with Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo -- a dedicated Harry Potter-themed Shinkansen set and a QR stamp rally across five stations -- steering rail passengers toward an attraction on home turf for Japan's largest station-retail landlord.

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Seibu Railway said on October 27 that they are launching the second phase of a three-way collaboration with Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo -- The Making of Harry Potter, tied to the studio tour's "Magical Winter" event running November 13, 2026 to January 11, 2027. The centrepiece is a single E7 series Shinkansen set, 12 cars wrapped in characters including Hedwig, Dobby, the Niffler and Pickett, that will run on the Joetsu Shinkansen (Tokyo-Niigata) and Hokuriku Shinkansen (Tokyo-Tsuruga) services from November 13, 2026 to around November 2027, the companies said.
Alongside the train, the companies are running a QR-code stamp rally from November 13 to December 13 across JR Niigata, JR Nagano, JR Ueno and JR Ikebukuro stations, plus Seibu Ikebukuro and Seibu Toshimaen stations, and the studio tour itself -- each stop yielding a digital stamp of a magical creature. Prizes range from a wallpaper design for anyone who collects two station stamps, to a hologram sticker for the first 1,500 entrants who add the studio tour's own stamp, to a lottery for studio-tour pair tickets or a Hedwig gift set for those who also ride the wrapped Shinkansen, according to the companies.
JR East is Japan's largest station-retail landlord, and this second phase puts its own Shinkansen platforms and concourses to work as the promotion. In our view it reads less as a one-off campaign than as a continuing bet, from two companies that control the stations themselves, that an attraction already on their own lines is worth steering winter travellers toward.
