Kansai Airports retires its loyalty card for a membership that rewards shopping like it rewards flying
Kansai Airports is retiring its KIX-ITM loyalty card for "Soraca," a programme that earns points from an airport purchase the same way it earns them from a boarding pass — a first-hand read on how one of Japan's three-airport travel-retail operators is trying to lift spend per passenger.

Kansai Airports will retire the KIX-ITM Card, its long-running airport loyalty programme, and replace it with a new membership called Soraca from 15 December, the company said — a scheme that earns points for shopping at the airport's stores as well as for flying.
Soraca will run across all three airports Kansai Airports operates — Kansai International, Osaka International (Itami) and Kobe — and will cover more than 120 participating stores and services, according to the release. Members earn points both by boarding a flight and by making a purchase at those retailers, while the KIX-ITM Card stops taking new activity a month earlier, on 15 November. The programme sorts members into Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers by usage, and points convert into discount vouchers redeemable inside the airports. Kansai Airports also said Soraca will register a member's itinerary to push personalised offers and coupons, support multiple languages, and mark its launch with a social-media sharing contest offering 1,000 winners 1,000 points each.
The redesign matters because it collapses two separate relationships — the flight and the shop — into a single loyalty ledger, just as inbound duty-free spend at Japan's airports settles down from its post-pandemic recovery highs. Kansai Airports runs the retail and duty-free floors at all three airports directly, so a programme that rewards a purchase the same way it rewards a boarding pass is a direct lever on spend per passenger, not just a frequent-flyer perk. Whether it works will show up first in which tier fills fastest: Bronze is easy to reach, Gold is the one that means someone actually changed how they shop before a flight.
