Kinujo opens its first permanent shop, a café by day and bar by night on Ginza's Miyuki-dori

Kinujo, the Tokyo hair-styling-tool brand, opened its first permanent shop on 1 September on Ginza's Miyuki-dori — a caviar-and-cocktails café by day and bar by night, one more case of a brand buying its way onto Japan's priciest retail street through food and drink rather than product.

Kinujo, the Tokyo hair-styling-tool brand, opened its first permanent shop on 1 September on Ginza's Miyuki-dori, according to a release the company issued on PR TIMES. Kinujo Cafe & Bar occupies the fifth floor of the Miyuki Building at 5-6-12 Ginza, a two-minute walk from Ginza Station, and operates as a café during the day and a bar in the evening, seating 40 across a glass-fronted room with beige tones, a cylindrical counter and copper lighting fixtures.

The menu runs from wagyu rillette and Miyazaki caviar to cheese and charcuterie boards, gelato, single-origin coffee sourced from women-run farms in Costa Rica's Tarazú region, and a sparkling wine imported from France under the brand's own label, the company said. Kinujo did not disclose prices.

A hair-tool brand does not need a café to sell dryers, but it does need an address that makes the brand feel as premium as its price point — and Miyuki-dori, a street built on maison flagships, does that work before a customer touches a single product. It is a Presentation-and-Promotion move as much as a hospitality one: rent bought not to move stock through the door but to put the brand's name on one of the most expensive blocks in Japanese retail.
