KHAITE opens its first permanent Japan boutique, inside an Isetan Shinjuku refresh

The New York label's first permanent Japan store opened inside a department-store floor refresh rather than a flagship of its own — the low-risk route into Japan that a new licensing joint venture, not the brand itself, is financing.

KHAITE, the New York ready-to-wear and accessories label, opened a boutique on the third floor of Isetan Shinjuku's main building on 5 September, according to the department store's own shop-news announcement. Isetan Shinjuku itself described the opening as a "refresh" of the space, but trade press including FashionSnap, Precious.jp and WWD Japan have reported it as KHAITE's first permanent store in Japan — tied to a joint venture the trading house Yagi Tsusho struck with KHAITE LLC in November 2025.

The store sits within the third floor's International Designers East section, the corridor Isetan Shinjuku has used this year to bring in newly arriving overseas labels. According to the store, the KHAITE range runs from dresses priced up to ¥671,000 down to brooches from ¥286,000, with general sales due to begin later in September following the opening.

The vehicle matters as much as the venue. KHAITE Japan Corporation — the joint venture through which Yagi Tsusho now operates the brand domestically alongside KHAITE LLC — lets a still-young American label acquire retail scale in Japan without building its own store network: the trading house brings the licensing, buying and staffing infrastructure, while the department store brings the floor and the footfall. The trade-off for KHAITE is visibility, since a shopper meets the brand mid-floor among Isetan's other international names rather than behind its own street frontage, but the upfront capital and lease risk sit with partners who already know the market.
