lululemon opens its first Japan global flagship, in Harajuku, on 19 August
lululemon will open its first Japan "global flagship" on 19 August in Jingumae, offering two personalisation services found nowhere else in the country — treating a mid-priced athleisure label like a luxury one, using customisation rather than price to create scarcity.

lululemon will open its first Japan "global flagship" on 19 August, a 1,220-square-metre store in Jingumae, Shibuya Ward — its 14th store in the country and the first to carry the designation — according to a release lululemon athletica JP distributed via PR TIMES on 28 July.
The store will offer two personalisation services exclusive to the location, the release said: initials embossed onto the Everywhere Belt Bag, and icons or names engraved onto the Back to Life Sports Bottle. It will open daily from 10:30am to 8pm.
lululemon Japan president Stewart Tudor described the store, in the release, as intended to serve as a hub linking people and ideas, where new inspiration and possibilities can take shape — company language that frames the opening as a community venue rather than a straightforward retail outlet.
The bet is a Product-and-Presentation one: personalisation turns a commodity purchase — a belt bag, a bottle — into something a customer can't get anywhere else, the same logic Ginza's watch and jewellery houses lean on to justify premium pricing, applied here to a mid-priced athleisure label. Putting the flagship in Jingumae rather than a mall also anchors it in one of Tokyo's most-watched streetwear districts, the kind of address where a store visit doubles as content for a younger, image-conscious shopper.
