Maison Margiela Fragrances picks Tokyo for its first-ever city-exclusive scent, with a year-long concept store at Ginza Six
Maison Margiela Fragrances has never before made a fragrance exclusive to a single city — it chose Tokyo, opening a year-long concept store on Ginza Six's basement beauty floor to sell a ¥31,900 scent built around a 1995 Tokyo narrative, a clear bet on the city ahead of the brand's other markets.

Maison Margiela Fragrances has opened a one-year concept store on the basement floor of Ginza Six, selling what it describes as the first fragrance in its history made exclusive to a single city — and the city is Tokyo, according to a release dated September 24.
The store, called the "Letter never sent" Concept Store, opened on October 1 and sells Replica Eau de Parfum Letter Never Sent, a 100ml scent priced at ¥31,900 including tax, the company said. The fragrance's narrative is set in Tokyo in 1995, built around the idea of "unfulfilled emotion" and an "unsent letter" — themes the brand said shaped both the scent and the store's design.
A global fragrance house making its first city-exclusive scent, and choosing Tokyo for it, is itself the signal here. A one-year commitment, rather than a six-week pop-up, reads as Margiela testing whether a sustained, story-led boutique can hold its own against a standard counter in a market where gift-giving and narrative-led packaging carry real weight at the till.
What happens when the year is up is the real question: whether Ginza Six keeps a permanent Margiela Fragrances fixture on the strength of this run, or the city-exclusive formula turns out to be a one-off anniversary-style project rather than a template Margiela repeats elsewhere.
