JFR and Komehyo's resale venture MEGRUS moves from Daimaru Kobe's 10th floor to a basement 'circular economy' lounge

JFR & KOMEHYO PARTNERS Inc., the joint venture 51%-owned by J. Front Retailing and 49%-owned by Komehyo, is relocating its MEGRUS brand buy-back store at Daimaru Kobe from the 10th floor to the basement second level, opening in the new location on 11 September, according to the company's own announcement. The redesigned B2F space, reached directly from Exit 1 of the Kobe Municipal Subway Kaigan Line's Kyukyoryuchi-Daimarumae Station, will operate from 10am to 6pm and is styled as a lounge for customers to wait while their items are appraised.

MEGRUS, launched as the joint venture in March 2025, positions itself as a hub for a circular-economy approach to buying and reselling used branded goods; the company now operates 11 stores nationwide, inside Matsuzakaya, Daimaru and PARCO locations, and runs a mechanic in which customers who complete a sale can vote for a social project, with a share of proceeds donated according to the voting result.

Moving a resale counter out of an upper sales floor and into a basement address with a direct subway exit swaps browsing footfall for commuter footfall, and fits the wider pattern among Japanese department stores of giving resale and circular-economy tenants ground-level or transit-adjacent space, rather than treating them as an upper-floor category alongside full-price fashion.
