MICHELIN flags 12 Kyoto and Osaka restaurants ahead of next year's guide
The MICHELIN Guide has flagged 12 restaurants across Kyoto and Osaka as new discoveries ahead of their formal addition to the guide, the latest instalment of a preview format the Japan operation runs most months to keep its dining coverage current between annual ceremonies.

The MICHELIN Guide previewed 12 restaurants in Kyoto and Osaka on 23 July, marking them with a “New” flag on its official website and app ahead of their formal addition to the guide, Japan Michelin Tire said in a release. Six of the picks are in Kyoto, six in Osaka.
The Kyoto selections span contemporary cooking at Shinka, charcoal-grilled Japanese fare at Sumi Ryori Hiyori, an izakaya built around seafood at Saketokoro Tanaka, cottonseed-oil tempura at Hashimoto, and two broth- and ingredient-focused Japanese restaurants, Fuyacho Nozaki and Nose. Osaka's list runs from contemporary cooking at KAKAN and a casually framed French restaurant, épa, to a minimal-intervention Japanese restaurant at Fujiichi, Korean cooking with Western technique at Mugunfa, tempura sourced from Osaka Bay and the Seto Inland Sea at Kawaharasaki, and charcoal-grilled yakitori at Torio.
It is a recurring format for MICHELIN's Japan operation, which has run a similar early-look preview most months this year rather than saving every discovery for the Kyoto/Osaka ceremony each spring — a steady drip of coverage that keeps the guide, and the restaurants it names, in the conversation between the big annual reveals.
