Mitsui Fudosan turns a business hall in Tokyo Midtown Hibiya into a 1,200 sqm art venue

Mitsui Fudosan said in a release dated 22 July that it will reopen the business-event hall at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya — previously operated as the BASE Q venue — as Tokyo Midtown Hibiya Hall on 1 September, at 1-1-2 Yurakucho, Chiyoda Ward. The company describes the renovated space as roughly 1,200 square metres.

The hall's opening act is an exhibition rather than a conference: "HUMAN AND NATURE," a ticketed show of roughly 300 works by contemporary artist Yuichi Hirako, runs 5 September to 18 October. Same-day tickets are priced at ¥2,200 for general admission, ¥1,600 for university and vocational-school students, and ¥1,100 for junior and senior high-school students, with elementary-age children and younger admitted free, the release said.

Renaming a business-conference hall into a museum-style cultural venue is a Presentation move as much as a programming one: Tokyo Midtown Hibiya already anchors its retail and dining floors around film, theatre and art as draws, and a dedicated ~1,200-square-metre exhibition space gives the complex a repeatable reason to bring visitors back between the retail calendar's bigger seasonal pushes. Opening with a paid, single-artist show of this scale — rather than a corporate or promotional event — also signals Mitsui wants the hall read as a cultural destination in its own right, not simply spare capacity dressed up for its first tenant.
