Miu Miu reissues its early-2000s 'bubble shoes,' with a runway-embroidered special edition
Miu Miu is pulling from its own archive again, reviving an early-2000s sneaker silhouette rather than a headline bag or heel, with the version straight off its AW26 runway held back as the more elaborate special edition.
Prada Japan, which operates Miu Miu in Japan, said it is reissuing the brand's "bubble shoes," a lightweight sneaker silhouette from Miu Miu's early-2000s archive originally inspired by sportswear. The reissue keeps the leather-and-suede upper and padded construction of the original but redesigns the sole with what the company describes as a new three-dimensional shape, made lighter through updated construction.
Detailing includes the Miu Miu logo, ribbed technical-cotton laces and contrast-coloured lace tips, according to the release. A separate special edition, first shown on the runway at Miu Miu's autumn/winter 2026 show in March, swaps the standard materials for technical nylon finished with crystal and sequin embroidery. Prada Japan's announcement did not specify a release date, pricing or which boutiques will carry the shoe.
Archive reissues have become one of the steadier ways Miu Miu keeps its Y2K-inflected identity current without leaning on a single logo bag, and pairing a runway-only embroidered version with a retail-ready model is the usual playbook: it lets the house sell a wearable, more accessibly priced piece off the back of a look that generated its own attention on the runway months earlier.
