Narita International Airport Corporation has opened a Matsumotokiyoshi drugstore behind security in Terminal 3 — the health-and-beauty chain's third airport shop in the Tokyo area, and this time announced by the airport operator itself rather than the retailer.
Narita International Airport Corporation has opened a Matsumotokiyoshi drugstore on the third floor of Terminal 3's main building, in the departure area beyond security, according to the airport operator's own announcement. The store opened on 28 August.
The assortment centres on health and beauty — pharmaceuticals, health supplements and cosmetics — described in the release in reassuringly generic terms as safe and reliable merchandise, standard drugstore-chain positioning worth reading as marketing language rather than an independent claim.
It isn't Matsumotokiyoshi's first shop at a Japanese airport. The chain, run by Matsukiyococokara Group, already operates inside Narita's Terminal 2 and in the international departures area of Haneda's Terminal 3, both opened in 2023, according to the retailer's own announcements.
A drugstore chain picking up a third Tokyo-area airport location — and this one announced by the airport operator itself, not just the retailer — points to how central the health-and-beauty basket has become to travel retail at Japan's gateways: sunscreen, over-the-counter medicine and gift-boxed cosmetics sold to departing passengers rather than arriving ones.
