MIC FIELD opens a neon-lit pickleball club in the basement of Shibuya Tobu Hotel

Two blacklit courts under neon lighting have opened two floors below Shibuya Tobu Hotel, the latest entrant in Tokyo's fast-multiplying pickleball scene — and, MIC FIELD says, the country's first permanent version of the format built inside a hotel.

MIC FIELD and Sinca have opened NEON PICKLEBALL CLUB, a two-court pickleball facility on the second basement level of Shibuya Tobu Hotel, according to the companies' joint release on PR TIMES. The club pre-opened on 1 August and held its grand opening on 8 August, and is due to run through the end of February 2027.

The pitch is the room itself: court lines lit by blacklight, the whole space wrapped in neon, styled by the companies as a club-and-gallery setting rather than a conventional sports hall. MIC FIELD describes it in its own release as Japan's first permanent hotel-based pickleball facility built around a neon presentation.

The club is running a founding-member offer capped at 100 people — a ¥3,000 entry fee plus ¥1,000 a month for seven months, with ¥2,000 off each court booking — alongside 100 limited-edition paddles. Courts run 12:00 to 22:00, with rental paddles and balls included and dining available one floor up and in the basement.

The location is the tell: a hotel basement, converted rather than purpose-built, in a category that has been opening courts inside resorts, gyms and repurposed retail floors across Japan this year. Wrapping the format in nightclub lighting is a Presentation bet aimed at a younger crowd that pickleball's mostly daytime, community-centre image hasn't reached, and the membership structure — a capped founding cohort, a fixed end date next February — reads as a market test before any commitment to a permanent build-out.
