Ralph Lauren launches its first official Japan app, with a members-only pre-sale

Ralph Lauren Japan has launched its first-ever official app, folding stores, its Japan e-commerce site and membership into one platform and opening with an app-exclusive pre-sale — matching a unified-membership standard that domestic department stores and apparel chains set years ago.

Ralph Lauren Japan LLC launched its first-ever official smartphone app on 14 September, unifying physical stores, its Japan e-commerce site and membership services into a single platform, the company said in a release. The app is built around three stated pillars — exclusive content, connected shopping across channels, and personalised recommendations — and the company plans to add AI-driven styling suggestions in future updates.

To mark the launch, Ralph Lauren ran an app-exclusive pre-sale of a "Color on Whites" capsule — polo shirts and related pieces in white fabric with coloured pony logos — priced from ¥13,200 for a cap to ¥26,400 for an Oxford shirt, with T-shirts at ¥15,400 and polo shirts at ¥22,000, according to the release. The company did not disclose download or membership figures.

A single unified app arriving only now says less about Ralph Lauren specifically than about how uneven digital membership still is across foreign apparel and luxury names operating in Japan: domestic department stores and casualwear chains have run integrated app-and-point systems for years, largely because Japanese shoppers are heavy users of loyalty apps and QR-code payment at the till. What the pre-sale buys Ralph Lauren is a direct channel to its most engaged customers that doesn't run through a department-store concession's own membership scheme — useful leverage the next time a landlord negotiates floor space.
