Repetto launches its first leotard line, with prima ballerina Mizuka Ueno appearing at Matsuya Ginza

Repetto is entering a product category it has never sold before, a leotard line built over three years with Tokyo Ballet principal Mizuka Ueno, and introducing it through an in-person appearance at Matsuya Ginza rather than a standalone launch.

Repetto, the French dance and leisure brand, is releasing its first-ever leotard line, developed together with Tokyo Ballet principal dancer Mizuka Ueno, according to a statement published via Maple Market Inc., the Nagoya company that operates Ueno's own health and fashion brand, piuprima di mizuka. Two designs go on sale: "Rose," trimmed with scalloped fabric, priced at ¥22,000, and "Camélia," finished with lace floral accents, at ¥24,200.

The collaboration took about three years to develop, the announcement said, and culminated in Ueno meeting Repetto's designers directly at the brand's Paris headquarters. In-store sales begin on 13 September at 11:00 at Repetto's boutique on the third floor of Matsuya Ginza, where Ueno will appear in person; the online store follows on 16 September at 10:00. The Ginza event carries added mechanics: leotard buyers can join a photo session with Ueno, and those spending ¥22,000 or more receive a signed postcard and have their purchase handed to them directly by the dancer, according to the release.

The release also detailed Ueno's background: principal dancer with Tokyo Ballet since 2004, born in Kamakura, recipient of Japan's Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 2023, and the last dancer personally coached by choreographer Maurice Béjart in his staging of "Bolero."

A first product category for a brand built on ballet flats and dancewear accessories is a real step, and Repetto chose to introduce it through a Japanese department-store floor and a named dancer's personal draw rather than a standalone online drop or a generic ambassador tie-up. That pairs Place and Promotion: Matsuya Ginza supplies the footfall and the department-store counter's credibility, while Ueno's own following, built through her separate lifestyle brand, supplies the reason to turn up on a specific day. Whether the format extends past this single event, to further designs or further stores, is not addressed in the announcement.
