Shimamura opens a third Bangkok-area pop-up in under a year
Shimamura, Japan's largest apparel chain by store count, has opened its third Bangkok-area pop-up in less than a year, this one by Suvarnabhumi Airport -- its own export test of the private-brand playbook now filling vacated floors back home.

Shimamura has opened a pop-up store at Robinson Lifestyle Suvarnabhumi, a mall by Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport, from October 22, the company said. The 1st-floor site is scheduled to run through January 20, 2027, with hours of 10am to 9pm local time and cashless payment only, selling women's and children's apparel from Shimamura's Japanese private- and joint-brand lines -- Shimamura, Avail and Birthday.
It is the retailer's third Thailand pop-up inside eleven months: a Siam Paragon site opened in December 2025 and is still running, and a Pattaya pop-up at BigC Place Pattaya Klang opened in August and is due to close in November. Shimamura also runs a Thailand e-commerce site and sells through Lazada, Shopee and TikTok Shop; the company said the new store is meant to build brand awareness ahead of further pop-ups.
The format being tested abroad is the same one reshaping Shimamura's home market: low-priced, own-brand apparel that has been filling the roadside and suburban-mall floors vacated by weaker chains across Japan. Running three temporary sites in under a year, rather than committing to a single flagship, reads as a deliberately cheap way to find out whether that same value proposition travels before Shimamura decides whether a Thai business is worth building out.
