Sotetsu will close its 46-year-old Sagamino station building in January 2027

A 46-year-old station-front shopping building on Sotetsu's Main Line in Ebina will close in late January 2027; the group has not said what comes next on the site.

Sotetsu Urban Create and Sotetsu Building Management, two property units of the Sotetsu Group, said they will close Sotetsu Life Sagamino, a station-front shopping building on the Sotetsu Main Line in Ebina, Kanagawa, in late January 2027, ending a run that began when the building opened in November 1980.

According to the companies' announcement, the two-storey, steel-reinforced-concrete building currently holds 14 tenants across its 7,946 square metres, including the Sotetsu Rozen supermarket and the restaurant Renge Shokudo Toshu. The companies said the closure is meant to support "regional charm creation and hub-building," without naming what, if anything, will replace the building; they said consideration of what comes next is ongoing, aimed at a facility the community will embrace. A series of closing events, including displays of customers' memories and prize draws, are planned from December 2026 through to the final closing date.

The release gives the closing date, the tenant roster and a programme of farewell events, but not a plan for the site. That is the announcement to watch: with 14 tenants, a supermarket among them, leaving a 7,946 sqm station-front building, what Sotetsu puts there next will say more than the closure itself.
