Asics opens a second Japan flagship, and adds a paid consultation lounge

A four-floor Shinjuku store opening 31 July adds embroidery customisation and a paid private lounge to Asics's home-market retail. The bet is on service, not shelf space.

Asics will open ASICS FLAGSHIP SHINJUKU on 31 July 2026, at 3-17-5 Shinjuku in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward, the company said. Asics describes the store as roughly 605 square metres across four floors, open from 11:00 to 19:00, and says it is the brand's second flagship in Japan after Harajuku and its third worldwide, alongside a Shanghai store.

The floor covers running, tennis, basketball and golf footwear alongside Asics SportStyle apparel and collaborations, according to the company. Two additions stand out against that fairly standard assortment. "ASICS CREATE," an in-store embroidery and apparel customisation service, is a first for the brand's stores. And a fourth-floor "PRIVATE LOUNGE" offers a paid, reservation-only personal consultation, reserved for select members of the brand's OneASICS loyalty programme.

That is the more interesting story than the square footage. A Japanese sportswear brand adding a paid, appointment-only consultation floor to a directly run store is a bet on service and relationship over transactional shelf space — the same move floortok tracks on department-store floors, applied to a brand that has traditionally sold through wholesale as much as its own doors. Running two Tokyo flagships plus Shanghai, rather than one showcase store, also reads as Asics treating directly operated retail as a growing part of how it wants to meet its home-market customer, not a marketing afterthought.

A paid consultation floor on a sportswear flagship is not a showroom flourish. It is a wager that the home-market customer will pay for attention, not just for shoes.

Watch how the private lounge performs once the opening period passes. A loyalty-gated, paid consultation service only earns its floor space if OneASICS members actually book it and keep coming back; if take-up is thin, the fourth floor becomes expensive real estate for a feature that photographed well on opening day. If it works, it is a template Asics can repeat wherever it next chooses to run a flagship rather than sell through a partner.
