GranSta Tokyo's underground Marunouchi concourse reopens with 26 shops

JR East Cross Station will reopen the underground Marunouchi ticket-gate concourse of GranSta Tokyo on 16 September, bringing 26 shops back onto one of Tokyo Station's highest-traffic retail floors, the company said. Thirteen of the 26 are exclusive to the site, and every shop will carry a GranSta Tokyo-only product line.

The renewal groups the shops under a concept the company calls FAV ZAKA, built around repeat, everyday visits rather than one-off souvenir buying. Ten of the 26 shops are entirely new to the site; the rest have been renovated or rebranded, according to the announcement.

The reopened area adds an on-site kitchen making sweets to order, several stalls aimed at quick meals rather than sit-down dining, and an "ART WALL" installation curated by design studio SPIRAL, opening with a series by the artist kopfkino. JR East Cross Station is also running a JRE POINT giveaway from 16 to 29 September and handing out limited "FAV" character stickers with purchases from opening day.

What matters more than the shop count is the tilt. Concourses like this one usually chase two different customers at once: the commuter who wants a coffee and a snack without breaking stride, and the tourist filling a suitcase with souvenirs before a shinkansen departure. Building the relaunch around a made-to-order sweets kitchen, quick meals and a rotating art wall, rather than headline-grabbing brand debuts, reads as a bet on the former — the passenger who walks through it most days, not once.
