Hoshino Resorts turns its former-prison museum into a nighttime light show this winter
Hoshino Resorts is opening the Former Nara Prison after dark for a new ticketed light-and-sound event this winter, adding nighttime programming to a nationally protected building it already runs as both hotel and museum.

Hoshino Resorts said its Nara Prison Museum will run a new nighttime event, "PRISON BY NIGHT: Light & Echoes," from December 4, 2026 to January 31, 2027 (closed January 12-14), opening the Former Nara Prison -- a nationally designated Important Cultural Property the operator runs as both a hotel and a museum -- from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets cost ¥3,000 for adults, ¥2,000 for university and high-school students and ¥1,000 for younger children, with advance booking recommended, the company said.
