Hoshino Resorts to open RISONARE Fukui beside the prefecture's dinosaur museum in 2027
Hoshino Resorts will open RISONARE Fukui, a family resort beside the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, in September 2027 -- betting a Klein Dytham-designed hotel can turn a day trip to see fossils into an overnight stay.

Hoshino Resorts said on October 28 that it will open RISONARE Fukui, a new hotel under its family-oriented RISONARE brand, on September 10, 2027, inside Katsuyama Dinosaur Park in Katsuyama, Fukui Prefecture, directly beside the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. The operator said reservations are scheduled to open in April 2027.
The resort, themed "a family retreat in the primeval forest," is designed by Kumagai Gumi Architectural Design Office and Kisho Kurokawa Architect & Associates, the firm founded by the late architect Kisho Kurokawa, with interiors by Klein Dytham architecture (KDa) -- the practice behind RISONARE Nasu's POKO POKO building, named Hospitality Building of the Year at the 2021 Dezeen Awards, and RISONARE Shimonoseki, which TIME included on its 2026 list of the World's Greatest Places, according to Hoshino Resorts. The hotel's cylindrical exterior is designed to echo a pinecone against the red pine forest of Mt. Nagao, and a top-floor "Panorama Wellness Floor" and pool look out over the Katsuyama hills and the Kuzuryu River, the company said.
Fukui Prefecture says it accounts for about 80% of the dinosaur fossils found in Japan, including six newly identified species unearthed locally, and the museum beside the new hotel's site already draws visitors on its own. In our view, Hoshino Resorts is betting that a RISONARE-grade stay, rather than any programming of its own, is what turns a day trip to see the bones into an overnight one -- and, with the brand's other family resorts concentrated in Yamanashi, Shizuoka and Oita, the move extends Hoshino's domestic pipeline into a prefecture it has not previously operated in.
