Baycrew's reworks Barbour's Spey and Bedale jackets for a JOURNAL STANDARD capsule

Baycrew's has commissioned two special-make-up (SMU) jackets from British heritage brand Barbour for its JOURNAL STANDARD label, recutting two of Barbour's archive silhouettes for release in early October, the company said.

The Barbour JS SMU Spey Jacket-Combi reworks Barbour's fishing jacket with an extended length, hand-warmer pockets and fabric-blocked panels on the back, finished with a tonal contrast and a drawstring hem; it will sell for ¥73,700. The Barbour JS SMU Wool Cropped Old Bedale keeps the classic Bedale's silhouette but is built in weathered wool with cropped proportions and flap pockets, priced at ¥82,500.

Both pieces will be sold across JOURNAL STANDARD's stores, its "VISIT JOURNAL STANDARD" format and Baycrew's online shop, with pre-orders open now on the company's e-commerce site.

Recutting a heritage British label's own archive shapes, rather than simply stocking Barbour's mainline, is the standard play for a Japanese select shop's own-brand collaborations: cropping the Bedale and lengthening the Spey brings two famously boxy British silhouettes closer to the fit Japanese menswear customers already buy from JOURNAL STANDARD, while the Barbour name still does the heritage work in the marketing.
