Marc Jacobs opens a permanent store at Isetan Shinjuku, paired with a two-store-only runway pop-up

Marc Jacobs is opening its first permanent Isetan Shinjuku store on September 2, backed by a week-long pop-up carrying Runway 2026 pieces the brand says are sold at just two stores worldwide -- a bet that Isetan's floor can carry product exclusive enough for a global flagship.

Marc Jacobs Japan will open a permanent store inside Isetan Shinjuku's "TOKYO Closet" on September 2, carrying ready-to-wear and handbags, the company said in a press release. The opening will be accompanied by a week-long pop-up, running September 2 to 8 in the same building's Center Park, dedicated to the brand's Runway 2026 collection.

The pop-up centres on pieces from a collection the brand calls "MEMORY. LOSS.," built around themes of nostalgia and introspection, according to Marc Jacobs, which said the Runway 2026 line is sold at only two stores worldwide. The Isetan pop-up carries store-exclusive pieces including a half-zip long-sleeve shirt priced at ¥314,600, a midi skirt with a chain belt at ¥276,100, and the Runway J Link shoulder bag at ¥315,700.

Putting a two-store-only runway edit inside a department-store concession, rather than a company-owned flagship, is a Product and Presentation bet as much as a distribution one: it treats Isetan Shinjuku's floor as a global-tier point of sale, not a licensee corner selling down a simplified assortment. For Isetan, which has spent recent seasons rebuilding its beauty and ready-to-wear floors around younger, statement-driven brands, landing that kind of scarcity is itself the pitch to shoppers who could otherwise only find the pieces overseas.
