Mikimoto's pharmaceutical arm turns pearl research into an 8-piece skincare line

Mikimoto Pharmaceutical will launch 'MIKIMOTO BEAUTY' on 1 October, an eight-product skincare range priced up to ¥41,800 that leans on decades of the group's own pearl research — the latest sign of a jewellery house pushing further into beauty.

Mikimoto Pharmaceutical, part of the Mikimoto group, will launch an eight-product skincare line called MIKIMOTO BEAUTY on 1 October, according to a press release from the company. Prices run from ¥11,000 to ¥41,800, and the range goes on sale first at the Mikimoto Beauty store in GINZA SIX and the brand's official online shop, with other retailers to follow.

The company traces the line to pearl research it has run since 1943, and describes it as combining the Mikimoto group's 130-year jewellery expertise with its own pharmaceutical skincare science. Its positioning line, "skin-longevity beauty," explicitly likens skin ageing to how a pearl gains lustre over time.

The move follows a familiar path for houses with a strong material story to tell: Mikimoto is betting that decades of pearl science will read to a beauty shopper as credible science rather than marketing gloss, especially to a customer who already associates the brand with luxury and longevity. Starting the line inside its own Ginza Six store, rather than a department-store beauty floor, keeps the launch tightly controlled before any wider distribution push.
