The store will scale back its Mikimoto operations on 26 August before closing the boutique completely on 27 August ahead of the move, Takashimaya said, with the relocated space reopening the following day. The notice gives no reason for the floor change and no further detail on the new space.
A move from the sixth floor down to the second — the floor department stores typically reserve for jewellery, watches and other small, high-value goods closest to the main entrance — fits the broader pattern of Japanese department stores pulling their most footfall-sensitive luxury categories nearer street level, though Takashimaya's own notice does not frame the move that way.
