All four of Mori Trust's hotels win a MICHELIN Key in 2026, including its new 1 Hotel Tokyo
Every hotel in Mori Trust's directly run Japan portfolio — the newly opened 1 Hotel Tokyo among them — has been awarded a MICHELIN Key for 2026, a clean sweep that puts a Japanese developer-operator's own buildings, not just the global brands it hosts, at the centre of this year's luxury-hospitality recognition.

Mori Trust said all four hotels in its directly run Japan portfolio — 1 Hotel Tokyo, Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara, Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto, and JW Marriott Hotel Nara — have each been awarded one MICHELIN Key in the 2026 edition of the MICHELIN Guide's hotel ranking, according to a statement the Tokyo-based developer issued on October 1.
Two of the four are first-time honourees. 1 Hotel Tokyo, the debut Japan property for the US sustainable-luxury brand, opened in March inside Mori Trust's Akasaka Trust Tower and is built around biophilic design and Japanese craftsmanship. Shisui, a 43-room hotel at the western edge of Nara Park that incorporates a former prefectural governor's residence dating to 1922, is also receiving its first Key. Suiran, a 39-room property in Arashiyama built around Meiji-era structures more than 120 years old, and the 158-room JW Marriott Nara — which opened in 2020 as Japan's first JW Marriott — are each picking up a Key for a third consecutive year, Mori Trust said.
The sweep lands as Mori Trust's hotel business marks its 50th anniversary, tracing back to the 1976 opening of Hotel La Forêt Shuzenji, the company said. For a developer built on Tokyo office towers before it expanded into hospitality, having every hotel in its directly run Japan portfolio recognised in the same year — spanning a brand-new import, a historic-building conversion and an established international franchise — says less about any one property than about the breadth of a 50-year-old hotel platform now clearing the same bar across formats, cities and operators at once.
The harder question is whether that sweep holds as the portfolio grows: a Key is easier to keep across four hotels than it will be to repeat once Mori Trust adds a fifth.
