Takashimaya Yokohama's gold fair centres on a ¥1.54m pure-gold Pokémon figure
Takashimaya's autumn gold fair at its Yokohama store puts a 24-karat, ¥1,540,000 Pokémon Surfgo figure marking the franchise's 30th anniversary alongside an on-site gold buyback counter, pairing licensed-character collecting with a bullion rally floortok has already traced to price, not new buyers.

Takashimaya will fill the eighth-floor special hall of its Yokohama store with roughly 1,000 gold items for an autumn exhibition running 30 September to 5 October, the department-store operator said in a 22 September statement. The centrepiece is a 24-karat pure-gold figure of the Pokémon character Surfgo, about 15 grams and 6 centimetres tall, priced at ¥1,540,000, marking the franchise's 30th anniversary.
Alongside the figure, Takashimaya is showing a roughly 120-centimetre gold-leaf statue of Surfgo built from about 730 sheets of leaf, a 40-to-50-centimetre gold-leaf Pikachu statue using about 200 sheets, and commemorative coins and medals tied to the 2027 World Expo. The store is also running a free evaluation and cash buyback service for gold, silver and platinum items brought in during the event, Takashimaya said.
The fair lands as department stores are already seeing outsized growth on their gold, jewellery and precious-metal counters, growth floortok has traced largely to the metal's own price rather than to more buyers (see our 20 September analysis). Pairing a licensed-character collectible with an on-site buyback desk works both sides of that trade at once: the Surfgo figure gives a gold buyer a reason tied to nostalgia rather than price alone, while the buyback counter lets an existing gold owner cash in on the same rally a few metres away.
