Pal Group's 3COINS opens its first Taiwan store, in Taipei's Ximen district
Pal Group's 3COINS — the ¥300-and-up variety chain that anchors mall and station floors across Japan — opened its first Taiwan store on 12 September inside Eslite Wuchang in Taipei's Ximen district, the Japanese operator's fifth store outside Japan after three in Hong Kong and one in Malaysia.
3COINS, the variety-goods chain operated by Japan's Pal Group, opened its first Taiwan store on 12 September inside Eslite Wuchang (誠品生活武昌), on the fourth floor of the complex in Taipei's Ximen district, according to a release Pal Corporation issued on PR TIMES. The store measures 69.81 tsubo, or roughly 231 square metres.
The store carries around 2,000 items spanning household goods, interior accessories, phone cases and children's products, plus items made for the Taiwan market, including eco bags, the company said. It is 3COINS' fifth store outside Japan, following three in Hong Kong and one in Malaysia.
3COINS built its footing in Japan on breadth as much as price — a single store carries everything from kitchenware to phone accessories, priced low enough that browsing costs nothing. Taking the format abroad is as much a test of assortment as of geography: alongside the roughly 2,000-item range it carries at home, the Taipei store adds products made only for the Taiwan market, such as its eco bags, an acknowledgment that a ¥300-and-up format needs local editing, not just a change of address, to travel. Hong Kong and Malaysia were the first tests; a fifth store, its first in Taiwan, suggests Pal Group likes the answer so far.
