Otakaraya opens its second Taiwan store, inside a New Taipei City shopping complex
e-furan's pawn-and-resale chain Otakaraya has opened its second Taiwan store, in a New Taipei City shopping complex, as the Japanese buyback specialist targets 50 Taiwan locations this fiscal year.
Japanese pawn-and-resale chain Otakaraya has opened its second store in Taiwan, inside the JC PARK Xinzhuang Xingfu commercial building in New Taipei City's Xinzhuang district, its operator e-furan Co. said. The store opened on 27 July and trades from 11am to 8pm, buying and selling precious metals, luxury jewellery, watches and other used goods — the same buyback format Otakaraya runs across Japan.
It is Otakaraya's first Taiwan store to sit inside a shopping complex rather than a standalone unit, e-furan said, as the company targets 50 Otakaraya locations across Taiwan within the current fiscal year. The company put its worldwide store count at more than 1,940 as of early August, spanning Japan and an expanding footprint across Asia.
The Taiwan opening follows a similar push into Singapore, where e-furan opened its first dedicated watch-sales Otakaraya store, at Far East Plaza near Orchard Road, in July — a market where the company said Otakaraya's sales had doubled within a year of entry. For a Japanese buyback chain, credibility with sellers matters as much as footfall from buyers, and Otakaraya is following the same shoppers, Taiwanese and Singaporean travellers already familiar with Japan's resale market, who have long crossed borders to shop in Tokyo and Osaka. Whether that familiarity extends to trusting a Japanese buyer with a family watch, not just buying from one, is the harder test still ahead.
