AEON opens its 13th general-merchandise store and supermarket in Vietnam

AEON Vietnam said it has opened AEON Thanh Hóa, its 13th general-merchandise store and supermarket in the country, as the Japanese retail group keeps building out the market it calls its most important after Japan itself.

AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd., a unit of Japan's AEON Co., Ltd., said it has opened AEON Thanh Hóa, its 13th general-merchandise store and supermarket (GMS) in Vietnam, according to the company's own announcement. The store anchors AEON MALL Thanh Hóa, a shopping centre in the north-central city of Thanh Hóa, and covers about 10,300 square metres across three floors, staffed by roughly 450 employees, AEON Vietnam said.

The store spans three floors, with the ground-floor supermarket open from 8am to 10pm daily and the upper two floors from 10am to 10pm on weekdays and 9am to 10pm on weekends, open year-round, according to AEON Vietnam. The company named Trương Khánh Xuân as the store's director; in a statement, she said AEON Thanh Hóa aims to be more than a new shopping destination, and that she and her staff will keep listening to and learning from the local community.

The ground-floor supermarket leads with fresh food carrying organic, GLOBALG.A.P. and VietGAP certification, alongside the group's TOPVALU private-label range, some of it developed specifically for Vietnam and some imported directly from Japan. An expanded AEON Bakery adds pizza, croissants and tarts with about 30 eat-in seats, and a Delica food hall seating about 290 runs AEON Sushi alongside Korean fried chicken, a self-service salad bar, noodle and hot-pot counters, and local Thanh Hóa dishes including nem chua, the city's well-known fermented pork speciality. AI-linked electronic scales at self-checkout and self-ordering kiosks round out the floor. The second floor pairs MYCLOSET, AEON Vietnam's own young women's fashion brand, with its Glam Beautique health-and-beauty chain and an AEON Bicycle shop, while the third houses a Kids Republic children's and baby section and the HÓME CÓORDY private-label home-goods range.

AEON calls Vietnam its priority market after Japan itself, and the group has kept up a steady run of openings this year: AEON Hải Dương, also in northern Vietnam, opened October 3, and AEON Hạ Long, which the company promoted in a September release, is next in its pipeline. The format on display in Thanh Hóa -- a GMS-and-supermarket box anchoring a larger AEON-developed mall, built around fresh food, the group's own private labels and a food hall -- is the same playbook AEON runs across its home market, and each new Vietnamese store adds to the overseas sales AEON Co. reports in its group results, alongside its core Japanese business.
