BabyBjörn brings its new Hold carrier and Begin bouncer to a hands-on pop-up at Isetan Shinjuku

BabyBjörn's Japan arm is running a hands-on pop-up for its new Hold baby carrier and Begin bouncer at Isetan Shinjuku through 15 September, complete with carrier fittings and an embroidery collaboration.

BabyBjörn K.K., the Japanese arm of the Swedish baby-gear brand, is running a pop-up for its Hold baby carrier (¥24,200) and Begin bouncer (¥27,500) on the sixth floor of Isetan Shinjuku, in the Center Park/The Stage #6 space, from 7 to 15 September, according to the company's own announcement. The Hold is built for newborns up to about 18 months (3.2–13.5kg); the Begin bouncer covers newborns to around nine months (2.8–9kg).

The stand lets visitors try on the carrier with staff fitting assistance and sit in an adult-sized version of the bouncer to feel its rocking motion, the company said. On 12 and 13 September the pop-up adds a live-embroidery collaboration with the artist atsumi, stitching customers' initials onto cotton bags; buyers of the featured products receive one of the embroidered bags, and MI Card holders spending ¥44,000 or more also get a BabyBjörn teddy bear.

Baby gear is a category where fit and feel are hard to convey online — a carrier that rides wrong on a parent's back, a bouncer whose recline angle looks fine in a photo but not in person — so a global brand using a Japanese department-store floor as a hands-on testing ground does more than promotional work: it lets Isetan's baby-and-kids floor sell the experience a webpage can't.
