Dior Maison brings its 'Balustrade' tableware to Japan boutiques

Dior's Japan arm has put a new porcelain and cashmere tableware line built around the ironwork of its original Paris address on sale nationwide and online from October 22 -- a direct read on how the maison is stocking its home-and-gift floor this festive season.

Christian Dior K.K. has put a new Dior Maison tableware collection, named "Balustrade," on sale at its boutiques across Japan and on its official online boutique from October 22, the company said. Designer Cordelia de Castellane built the line around the ironwork balcony of 30 Montaigne in Paris, the address where Christian Dior first showed his collections, reworked into a platinum-edged arabesque pattern.

The arabesque appears across porcelain pieces -- a coffee cup and saucer at ¥52,000, a teapot at ¥90,000, a presentation plate at ¥38,000 and a side plate at ¥20,500, tax included -- alongside a tea and coffee set and a cashmere blanket embroidered with the same motif, both without disclosed prices.

The timing is the detail that matters. A pattern priced from ¥20,500 for a side plate up to ¥90,000 for a teapot lands just as department-store and boutique home-and-gift floors enter Japan's biggest gift season, from the winter oseibo tradition through New Year -- product built to be given, not just displayed, and a reminder that even a storied maison's home-goods line has to work the calendar like everyone else's.
