Disney Store's first airport pop-up picks Haneda as its opening venue
Disney Store is taking its retail format airside for the first time, opening a six-month pop-up at Haneda as one of only two venues nationwide for the concept.

Disney Store is opening its first pop-up inside a Japanese airport, according to Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. (JAT). "Disney store POP UP," run by Walt Disney Japan, will occupy the departure lobby on the second floor of Haneda's Terminal 1 from October 1 through March 31 next year — a six-month run spanning both the year-end travel peak and the spring school-holiday season.
JAT's release describes the format as appearing at only two locations nationwide, with Haneda as the first. The shop stocks around 500 items, JAT said, including designs exclusive to the Haneda venue: a canvas tote printed with the "HANEDA" wordmark, plush keychains dressed as a pilot and a cabin attendant, and a plush of a sorcerer's-apprentice character sold with a bonus charm. A vending machine inside the pop-up adds a further airport-exclusive plush from October 9, and JAT said more limited items will follow while the pop-up runs.
Six months is a long lease for anything billed as a pop-up, and handing that much departure-lobby floor space to a single licensed brand is as much a Place decision for JAT as a Promotion one: it trades the flexibility of the terminal's rotating character pop-ups for a guaranteed anchor through its two busiest travel windows. For Disney, choosing an airport — where the customer is a captive, gift-minded traveller rather than a browsing shopper — as the launch site for a new retail format is the travel-retail logic at work: portable items built for a suitcase, and a venue-exclusive design that exists only if bought at Haneda itself.
Whether that exclusivity converts idle departure-lobby time into sales at Disney's usual full-price discipline is the first read on whether the format travels to a second venue and beyond.
