LALIQUE has opened a new boutique on the fifth floor of Tamagawa Takashimaya, according to a statement from Lalique Japan, the French crystal and lifestyle house's Japan subsidiary. The store opened 16 September inside the department store's fine tableware department, at the Setagaya Ward flagship serving the Futako Tamagawa area.

The company said the boutique carries the full range the maison is known for: crystal works, fragrance, jewellery, interior pieces, art objects and hospitality items. Lalique, founded in 1898 by René Lalique, described the concept as bringing "Art de Vivre" — the art of living — into a space designed for customers to spend time with the collection rather than pass through it quickly.

A tableware-floor boutique is a modest commitment next to a standalone flagship, but it is the right one for a market where Lalique's Japan footprint is thin outside its established department-store counters. Futako Tamagawa is one of Tokyo's wealthiest suburban catchments, and Takashimaya's tableware floor is where a French crystal house's core buyer — furnishing a home rather than shopping for fashion — already spends.

The test is whether a suburban tableware counter can carry Lalique's fuller range — jewellery and art alongside crystal — or whether it settles into a narrower, tableware-led assortment once the opening rush passes.
